More than 100 autonomous haul trucks are set to be deployed around the world following Heidelberg Materials’ deal with Pronto.

The agreement between the two companies will see Pronto’s Autonomous Haulage System, known as AHS, at more than a dozen Heidelberg Materials sites in the first phase.

“Meeting industry challenges with technological innovation has always been a central part of our target to create a more productive and sustainable future,” Heidelberg Materials chairman of the managing board Dr Dominik von Achten said.

“As a company leading the way in transforming our sector, we strongly believe in fostering strategic collaborations across industries. This partnership will accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge solutions across our sites and regions, leveraging synergies on a global scale.”

Pronto’s AHS system uses advanced sensors, cameras and artificial intelligence to operate haul trucks autonomously.  The system can be retrofitted to an existing fleet which will enable it to be added to Heidelberg Materials’ heavy mobile equipment fleet.

The new partnership builds on a previous pilot project between Pronto and Heidelberg Materials at Bridgeport, Texas using a mixed fleet of haul trucks at the quarry.

The locations set to receive the AHS technology include quarries and sites in North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region.

“Implementing the latest technologies across our production sites is an important driver of operational excellence and digital innovation at Heidelberg Materials,” Heidelberg Materials chief technical officer Axel Conrads said.

“By teaming up with Pronto, we will deploy a scalable solution to our fleet of haul trucks that will contribute significantly towards our production efficiency, safety, and sustainability efforts, while also addressing the challenge of recruiting skilled operatives.”
