Martin Lindqvist has announced his departure from SSAB after nearly three decades at the company, citing a desire to broaden his career.
SSAB confirmed Lindqvist’s departure from the company where he started in 1998. Lindqvist spent 13 years as the president and chief executive.
“During Martin’s time as CEO, SSAB has developed into a publicly traded company with global markets and a strong financial position,” SSAB board chairman Lennart Evrell said.
“He has been fundamental in building the company that SSAB is today and in driving the transformation to fossil-free production.
“He is a very appreciated leader and CEO. I want to thank Martin for his efforts for the company and wish him the best of luck in his future assignments.”
Under Lindqvist’s leadership, SSAB acquired Finnish company Rautaruukki and started a joint venture between SSAB, LKAB, and Vattenfall for fossil-free steel production through HYBRIT.
The company also committed to transforming its entire Nordic production system, including the mills in Oxelösund and Luleå, to fossil-free production.
“I’m very happy to have had the privilege to be part of this incredible journey together with many proud and skilled employees at SSAB,” Lindqvist said.
“At some point, you have to step down and for me that time has come. In the future, I will spend more time on board assignments and advisory roles.”
SSAB has started the search for Lindqvist’s replacement while he will stay on until the successor is appointed.
