WorkSafe Victoria has revealed the identity of its new chief executive.

Joe Calafiore has taken on the top job after serving as WorkSafe’s interim chief executive since October 2023. Calafiore replaces Colin Radford, who served as WorkSafe’s CEO from 2019-2023.

“I congratulate Joe Calafiore on his appointment as WorkSafe’s CEO, and thank Colin Radford for his leadership of WorkSafe through the pandemic,” WorkSafe Minister Danny Pearson said.

“Calafiore’s experience will be key to implementing our WorkCover reforms, delivering a scheme that supports Victorian workers when they need it most and helps them return to work.”

Calafiore served as the chief executive of the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) from 2015 to 2023 and also had senior roles in the organisation’s community and corporate affairs departments.

Radford played a key role in encouraging employers to take a prevention-led approach to mental health injuries. He laid the foundations for the ongoing reforms to the WorkSafe scheme and led the organisation through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Calafiore will lead WorkSafe as it seeks to update the WorkCover scheme to be better for workers and businesses.

“Every worker deserves to come home safe from work – Mr Calafiore will lead WorkSafe as it continues to reduce workplace harm and improve outcomes for injured workers,” Pearson said.
