Boral and Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia have hosted the Victorian Resources Minister at Boral’s Montrose Quarry.
According to the CCAA, the meeting celebrated seven million tonnes of new hard rock being approved.
The new development was supported by the state’s quarry approvals coordination function which sits with Resources Victoria.
“This approvals coordination team, working closely with industry, is starting to address the significant imbalance between demand – from housing, Big Build infrastructure & the Renewable energy transition – and diminishing supply of quarry products,” CCAA posted online.
“Never has it been more critical for cement, concrete and quarry materials to be efficiently brought to market from proven well located operations such as Boral’s Montrose quarry.
“CCAA looks forward to more examples of efficient approvals to drive investment in Victoria and affordable, sustainable construction.”

The Victorian Government announced the Resources Victoria Approvals Coordination role to streamline approval times for quarry applications last year.
At the announcement, it was estimated that the approvals coordinator would unlock 40 million tonnes of extra quarry material. In 2021-22, the state reached 70 million tonnes of quarried material, which is believed to be a record for Victoria.
In addition, the Minerals Resources (Sustainable Development) Bill was passed through the Victorian parliament last year to improve the sector’s regulation and work approvals.
“We’re ensuring Victoria has the materials it needs to meet the demand for new affordable housing and the major infrastructure projects our government is delivering,” Resources Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said previously.
“Our new regulations and approvals that will help deliver more rock, sand and gravel, while ensuring the right safeguards are in place to protect the environment and communities.”
