A new era has begun at Holcim, with the major building materials provider welcoming its new chief executive officer.
Miljan Gutovic has started in the role after previously being announced earlier this year for the top job. He takes over from Jan Jenisch who served as chief executive officer from 2017.
To mark his first day, Gutovic released a video in which he revealed some of his key targets for the company under his leadership.
“Having visited more than 40 of our markets around the world and spoken with many of you, I have seen Holcim’s team spirit firsthand,” he said.
“I am proud to call you my colleagues and your passion has always been the engine that drives Holcim in the right direction.
“I am committing to ensure Holcim is a place where talent is nurtured, diversity is celebrated, and innovation is encouraged.”
Gutovic, who hails from Australia, has been on Holcim’s group executive committee since 2018, alongside previous roles as Head of the Region Middle East and Africa, followed by the Region Europe and Operational Excellence.
The University of Technology Sydney graduate has degrees in civil engineering and a PhD in material sciences and engineering.
Gutovic is taking on one of the biggest roles in the sector, with Holcim employing 64,000 people worldwide.
“I am truly excited to be part to be part of this remarkable organisation with its rich history of achievements and successes,” he said.
“I have been part of Holcim since 2018 and I have witnessed up front the transformation of Holcim into a company that it is today.
“What really stands out is purpose, people and performance. Every day all of us are driven by a strong sense of purpose as we decabonise building at scale.
“We lead the industry in sustainability with circularity at the core of our strategy.”
