Holcim has confirmed its acquisition of Mark Desmedt in Belgium to boost its construction demolition capabilities in Europe.
The acquisition is in line with Holcim’s target of recycling 10 million tonnes of construction demolition materials per year. Mark Desmedt is a Belgium-based construction demolition company that recycles more than 500,000 tonnes per year and is involved in the country’s two biggest areas, Brussels and Antwerp.
“With the Mark Desmedt team, we are accelerating our vision to drive circular construction in the key metropolitan areas where we operate to build cities from cities,” Holcim chief executive officer Miljan Gutovic said.
“Strategically located between Brussels and Antwerp, Mark Desmedt will scale up our ECOCycle technology across Belgium, making circularity a driver of profitable growth. I look forward to welcoming the employees of Mark Desmedt to Holcim and to investing in our next chapter of growth together.”

Mark Desmedt was established in 1989 by the Desmedt family originally in the construction demolition materials market before expanding to ready-mix concrete in 2001.
Mark Desmedt is Holcim’s fourth acquisition of the year following its previous purchases of Cand-Landi Group (Switzerland), Land Recovery (United Kingdom) and Mendiger Basalt (Germany).
