Sortera has confirmed the acquisition of Reston Waste to become one of the largest construction waste recyclers in London.
It continues the Swedish company’s rapid rise after it acquired O’Donovan Waste Disposal (acquired in 2022) and GBN Services (acquired in 2023) to launch its presence in London in recent years.
With the acquisition, Sortera becomes one of the largest independent operators in London. It is the 22nd acquisition the company has made since its founding in 2006.
“This third acquisition in the UK enables us to continue our journey towards creating the leading player in construction waste recycling with a strong focus on service, quality and sustainability,” Sortera UK chief executive officer Mark McCleery said.
“Reston is an impressive company and has a service offering with customer and sustainability in focus, which is completely in line with Sortera’s way of working.
“Reston’s geographic focus on South London is also a perfect complement to our current operations in North and Central London.”
Among Sertora’s many portfolios it has made a name for site receiving and processing construction materials including excavation, aggregate, concrete and asphalt as well as selling recycled materials and virgin stone and gravel materials at its gravel terminals.
Reston Waste was founded in 1998 but Sharon and Aaron Reston as they grew the company to operate two sites in Wimbledon, one in Epsom with a fleet of over 70 trucks and employing about 180 people.
“I am convinced that Sortera is the best match for the business we have built over the years and I look forward to our joint future together,” Reston Waste owner and chief executive officer Andrew Weston said.
“We share many values with Sortera in how they run their business, above all with their focus on sustainability and their customers.
“By becoming part of Sortera, we ensure that what we have built over many years continues in the same spirit for many years to come.”
