Institute of Quarry president Viv Russell has lauded the impact of Hillhead on the quarrying industry after its showcase last month.

The major trade showcase in Hillhead Quarry took place from June 25-27 after previously running in 2022. As part of the event, the IQ hosted the Institute of Quarrying Australia’s study tour, which included time at Hillhead 2024.

“Hosting the study tour for the Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA) was a highlight, as they were amazed by Hillhead’s scale and the industry’s passion in the UK,” he said.

“Events like Hillhead prove that we work in a vibrant, forward-looking sector and must ensure we are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“The show is primarily an excellent platform for the industry to explore the latest technological advancements in our sector’s supply chain. However, it also serves as a fantastic opportunity for our community to unite, benefiting both seasoned professionals and newcomers alike.”

The Hillhead 2024 showcase broke several event records as people from across the industry flocked to the three-day event.

Russell said there was plenty of work ahead for the IQ in the second-half of 2024.

“The IQ Board will conduct a strategic review and develop a five-year plan for the organisation, extending to 2030. As we navigate a rapidly changing world, there will be opportunities for members and the wider industry to provide feedback on what they want from IQ,” he said.

“The upcoming months will also see IQ Board elections, and I encourage members to participate in the election process. My involvement with the Institute over the years has been rewarding, allowing me to give back and help guide our organisation’s direction. The nomination process will soon be available online, with more information on the roles and the process itself.”
