Caterpillar has crowned the best technicians from the Asia Pacific region, and the trio is set to take on the world in Spain as part of a global tournament.

Caterpillar is hosting its first-ever dealer technician challenge, showcasing the essential role technicians play in providing customer service and their high-tech, high-impact skillsets.

“This hands-on, skills-based competition will test the technicians’ agility, resilience and versatility,” Henry Venneman, global service vice president at Caterpillar, said.

“These trained experts are on the front line of support, working to keep machines and engines up and running to help ensure our customers’ critical projects are completed.”

Seven Caterpillar dealers participated in the Asia-Pacific regional challenger event over four days in Melbourne recently. The Australian contingent included Ben Peters from William Adams (Vic), Rhys Bishop from Hastings Deering (Qld/NT), and Leon Archibald from WesTrac WA.

Brenton Page from Terra Cat in New Zealand, Seng Kin Wai from Tractors, Singapore, Umar Zakir Bin Lamiron from Tractors, Malaysia and Aditya Pandu Winata from Trakindo, Indonesia also competed.

Archibald claimed the top spot from Bishop in second place, while Page rounded out the podium in third.

Archibald, Bishop, and Page are the top three from the regional competition. They will now compete in the semi-finals, which will be held in Malaga, Spain, before the global final, which will be held in 2026, to crown the top dealer technician.

The top 10 from the semi-finals will be able to compete in the finals in March 2026 at CONEXPO/CON-AGG in Las Vegas.

Cat dealers globally are experiencing a growing opportunity for technicians. By the end of 2026, it is estimated that Cat dealers may need to hire more than 44,000 technicians. This competition is also designed to help raise awareness of the opportunities in this career field.

“There are thousands of opportunities available globally for those who are interested in a hands-on career,” Venneman said.

“Cat dealers are often looking for individuals who are problem solvers, mechanically inclined and tech-savvy.”
