A local firm has awarded the major contract for South Australia’s multi-million-dollar upgrade of the Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive intersection.

Bardavcol has won the contract for the $85 million dollar project, and its work will help to slash road congestion between the Adelaide CBD and the airport during and after the River Torrens to Darlington project.

Bardavcol chief executive officer Jake Parkinson said the company’s local knowledge would benefit them in this South Australian project.

“As a local business, we also know how critically important it is to ensure the thoroughfare of this intersection,” he said.

“As the minister has outlined, a very important stakeholder is down the road here at the Adelaide Airport and also some of the local businesses around here.

“We know inconvenience comes with any roadworks, and at the same time, we want to be able to enable access to their sites as best possible.”

Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive are among Adelaide’s most traveled roads, with 60,000 vehicles passing through the intersection every day, according to the state government.

Bardavcol’s contract announcement comes after the federal and South Australian governments confirmed the consortium to deliver the T2D project, which is regarded as the state’s biggest infrastructure project.

“Even without the works associated with the T2D Project, increasing capacity at the intersection of Marion Road and Sir Donald Bradman Drive is a must-do to reduce delays and improve traffic flow and safety for all road users,” Tom Koutsantonis, South Australia’s transport minister, said.

“This intersection is a major link point between the city and the airport, and commuters to either destination don’t want to be stuck in traffic because of a lack of road capacity.

“We know the broader T2D Project will be a boon for local jobs, but it’s fantastic to be able to award significant complementary projects like this to a local firm in Bardavcol, which has a long and proven track record of delivering quality infrastructure for South Australians.”
