A hard rock quarry in Queensland could be transformed into a significant housing development under plans from Atrio Property.
The Queensland-based property developer is spearheading plans to transform Hardrock Quarry in Redbank Plains into a masterplanned community that would deliver 1,800 homes as well as a retail hub and open space. According to the company, the master plan includes three local parks and a new district park.
“Owned by a local family for almost 30 years, the site represents an opportunity to deliver a legacy project that sets a new standard for greenfield communities in the Ipswich-Ripley Corridor,” the company wrote on its website.
“Positioned adjacent to the highly-popular Brookwater community and within the established suburb of Redbank Plains, the residential development will be a welcome addition to the booming greater Springfield region.”
The 186-hectare quarry is in the Augustine Heights and Redbank Plains catchment.
The plans are still far from fruition, but Atrio is hosting a community consultation event on August 24 at Redbank Town Square. The development application has been lodged with Ipswitch City Council for consideration.

“The significance of HQ is not to be underestimated, with both local economy and residential community to benefit greatly from urban and landscape design that dedicates almost half of the site to open space, provides access to and rejuvenates Woogaroo Creek, and completes the final piece of the Redbank Plains and Augustine Heights urban framework,” Atrio posted.
“An application of this magnitude could not have been possible without the hard work and expertise of not just our own team but the team of consultants we have assembled to deliver the approval for this iconic project.”
