Caterpillar has broken new ground in its plans to expand its Lafayette engine centre as part of a “multi-year capital investment.”
The company has committed to a large capital investment at its Lafayette facility to increase capacity for new engines and aftermarket parts. The new building on the campus will give Caterpillar greater capacity to build and test new engines and genset packages and provide aftermarket components.
The project will expand the Lafayette facility, refurbish existing equipment and invest in additional equipment. According to the company, the expansion project responds to growing demand from Caterpillar customers.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to further invest in our Lafayette Engine Center to continue to deliver for our customers,” Bart Myers, Caterpillar senior vice president of Large Power Systems, said.
“We are grateful to the State of Indiana and the City of Lafayette for their support as we make this investment to ensure adequate capacity while enhancing safety for our employees.”
The investment is the largest for the site since it was opened in 1982. It will result in 100 new jobs on campus in addition to the 1,900 employees who currently work at the Lafayette Engine Centre.
“The success of the Lafayette Engine Center is rooted in our people, our commitment to safety and our dedication to technical innovation and continuous improvement in the interest of customers’ business success,” Myers said.
