IQA Southern region sub-branch dinner
On Friday 26 July, the Southern NSW Region sub-branch hosted its inaugural ‘Xmas in July’ dinner meeting and AGM at the Mittagong RSL Club. A special visit from the Grinch added to the festive atmosphere.
Andre Laidlaw from Laidlaw Equip, a 2024–2025 IQA NSW premium sponsor, welcomed MAGSHIELD, represented by Murray Laidlaw.
Murray provided a comprehensive overview of MAGSHIELD’s innovations, including the origins, concept, and magnetic filtration capabilities of their products, which filter down to 0.1 microns. He highlighted various OEM designs, installation examples, and cost savings achieved by their clients. Murray also discussed the MAG-PROBE diagnostics tool and their asset protection products, emphasising that MAGSHIELD’s filtration system complements rather than competes with existing OEM screening technologies. Members had the opportunity to see and touch examples of their magnetic solution devices firsthand.
During the AGM, the sub-branch bid farewell to departing members and welcomed new ones, expressing gratitude to outgoing chair ‘Shine’ for his long-standing dedication.
There was also a Women in Quarrying Fireside chat. The venue provided a cozy setting for engaging conversations and delightful snacks on a cold afternoon. A diverse group of attendees, ranging from early-career women to seasoned professionals, represented various roles in the industry like plant operators, CEOs, administrators, and sales and marketing professionals. WIQ sponsor, Onetrak, and a few IQA leadership team members from the region were also present. It was an enlightening experience to listen to individuals’ stories about their journey into and progression within the industry. The fireside chat concluded with a sense of camaraderie and optimism, as attendees ventured upstairs to join the IQA (Southern Region) AGM and Annual dinner.

WA AGM and dinner
On 9 August, the WA branch hosted its AGM and annual dinner at Gucce Cucina, Applecross. This year’s event was particularly special as the brand bid farewell to long-standing chairman, Tinus Nagel, who stepped down after an impactful four year tenure.
Under Nagel’s leadership, the WA branch achieved a first by securing numerous sponsors, many of whom have generously renewed their support for the 2024–25 period. The IQA is deeply appreciative of this continued commitment.
While Nagel will remain an active committee member in the coming year, he has passed the baton to Johan Barnard, with Phil Hopes stepping in as the incoming deputy. The branch is thrilled to welcome new committee members and extends gratitude to those continuing their service. Their collective efforts are instrumental in ensuring that the IQA delivers value to our members and sponsors, and in fostering the growth of our association.
