Hanson Australia has announced a conditional purchase agreement to acquire the premixed concrete business of Canberra-based Elvin Group.

Elvin Group was founded in 1970 by the late Tom Elvin and wife Leonie and has since gone on to become one of the largest cocnrete producers in the Canberra region. The company employs 85 employees and contractors while operating two concrete plants, a concrete laboratory, sand blending plant and an equipment and accessories supply outlet.

“The Elvin Family congratulates Hanson on reaching an agreement to purchase our concrete business. We would like to thank our staff, contractors and suppliers for their dedication, and all of our valued customers for their support over the last 54 years,” Leonie Elvin and her children Vic and Craig Elvin said in a statement.

“We wish Hanson every success for the future and we trust they will continue to grow the business for many years to come.”

Phil Schacht, chief executive officer of Hanson Australia, said the acquisition would bolster the company’s footprint.

“We are very excited about adding the Elvin Group’s concrete operations to the Hanson Australia business, as it strengthens our footprint in one of the largest regional markets in Australia,” he said.

The proposed acquisition has received informal merger clearance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
