SSAB has announced the appointment of long-time employee Per Elfgren as the successor to Johnny Sjöström to head up SSAB Special Steels.

Elfgren previously served the company as the head of market development at SSAB Special Steels. He takes over the role from Johnny Sjöström, who was recently appointed the new president and chief executive officer of SSAB.

“Per has played a major role in taking SSAB Special Steels forward to its present position and he knows both the company and the culture well,” Sjöström said.

“His experience of the market and an international customer focus will be important in continuing to strengthen our unique customer offering in high-strength steel, and on our journey towards becoming a fossil-free company.”

Elfgren has been part of the management team at SSAB Special Steels for the past eight years after originally joining the company in 1996.

Elfgren will take on the new role on November 1 and will also become part of SSAB’s Group Executive Committee.
