The Federal Government has announced a new expert group to help guide the response framework to artificial intelligence in Australia.
The temporary group has expertise in artificial intelligence and will examine how the Federal Government works with industry, academia, and the community regarding AI.
“The group will advise us on testing, transparency, and accountability measures for AI in legitimate, but high-risk settings to ensure our AI systems are safe,” a statement read.
“The group first met on 2 February 2024 and will continue to operate until 30 June 2024.”
The group has expertise in a range of areas, including law, ethics and technology. The 12 appointees are Professor Bronwyn Fox, Aurélie Jacquet, Dr Terri Janke, Angus Lang SC, Professor Simon Lucey, Professor Jeannie Paterson, Professor Ed Santow, Professor Nicolas Suzor, Professor Toby Walsh, Professor Kimberlee Weatherall, Professor Peta Wyeth and Bill Simpson Young.
The statement said, “The Government is considering longer-term arrangements as part of its work implementing the interim response to the safe and responsible AI consultation.”
