Pickles and Variety partner up for adventurous fundraiser

Pickles and Variety have partnered up for an adventurous riding challenge that will raise vital funds for regional communities facing economic hardships.

The event will see 30 participants ride for five days with the aim of raising more than $90,000 to support families and schools in remote areas.

Pickles has jumped on as an event sponsor and will be represented by Pickles salvage general manager Nick Johnson as he reprises his role, which he has done since 2020.

“I have been involved with Variety for 20 years having previously taken part in the B-to-B Bash,” he said.

“When the opportunity to be involved in a new Variety motorbike event came around, I couldn’t wait to be involved and it’s something I really look forward to each year.”

Variety will deliver $17,098 in grants to two schools and a community organisation on the Adventure Ride route:

 Delegate Public School will receive $6,670 for playground seating;
Porepunkah Primary School will receive $4,374 to develop a woodworking program for students
at risk of disengagement due to disability, low levels of literacy or anxiety.
Mansfield Junior Football Club will receive $6,054 for sporting equipment.

More than $55,000 will be injected into regional communities with overnight accommodation, meals, fuel and more for the 30 motorcyclists, as well as the 20-strong support team.

“Variety NSW/ACT supports children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability,” Variety NSW/ACT chief executive Tony Warner said.

“Our motoring events play a vital role in raising funds to help kids in need, particularly those in remote and regional communities where families and schools often face challenges in accessing the support and resources required for each child to reach their full potential.”

The ride begins on March 17 at Jindabyne, travels through the Victorian high country and Merimbula, and returns to the starting location on March 22.

“We provide a full support crew, including a baggage vehicle and medical and mechanicals teams, to take the stress out of everything and enable our riders to enjoy the incredible alpine ridges and thrilling descents we have planned,” Warner said.

“It really is the ultimate feel-good experience – getting your adventure bike out on the roads it was made for and having great fun with old mates or new friends, all while knowing you’re giving back to the community.”
