Heidelberg Materials Australia has confirmed its acquisition of Midway Concrete, that expands its presence in Victoria.
The two organisations have entered a conditional purchase agreement. Midway Concrete specialises in premixed concrete and operates four concrete plants in Laverton, Craigieburn, Melton and Lara.
“This acquisition complements Heidelberg Materials’ existing concrete and quarry operations within Melbourne and aligns with our strategy of acquiring bolt-on assets that support the company’s existing integrated positions in major markets,” Heidelberg Materials Australia chief executive officer Phil Schacht said.
“Midway’s proven track record over the last 20 years will be a valuable addition to Heidelberg Materials’ operations.”
Midway Concrete has built a reputation for supplying high-quality products, especially in the Melbourne and Geelong areas.
The acquisition is conditional on gaining informal merger clearance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. It is expected to be completed by mid-2025, and the transition will not impact jobs.
“We established this family business 23 years ago in Sunshine (Melbourne) with two trucks and it grew to become one of Melbourne’s most trusted concrete suppliers,” Midway Concrete owners David and Sharon Boxshall said.
“We would personally like to thank all the Midway employees and customers for their friendship and support throughout the decades and we look forward to watching Midway Concrete’s next journey with Heidelberg Materials.”
It follows Heidelberg Materials Australia’s acquisition of Hardcore Sands and Pink Lily Sands in Central Queensland earlier this year.
