The future Yarra Link Green Bridge is starting to take shape as numerous beams were lifted into place to form the structure crossing Bulleen Road on Melbourne’s North East Link.
Sixteen beams, each weighing around 60 tonnes, have been put in place, with eight additional smaller beams also installed to support the structure, according to Victoria’s Big Build.
These beams form the base of the bridge; installation of floor panels and concrete slab pours are next, to form the bridge deck.
More beams will be installed over the tunnel entry and exit as construction progresses. When complete, the two-hectare green bridge will allow animals of all kinds, including humans, to cross from the Koonung Creek Trail to Bulleen Park in Bulleen for the first time. The surrounding area will be planted with indigenous trees, and grasses and shrubs, and have a yarning circle.
The Yarra Link Green Bridge is being delivered as part of North East Link’s 34km of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths. These upgrades include more than 40 new bridges and improvements to the M80 Trail, Main Yarra Trail, and Koonung Creek Trail along with the new North East Trail.
