A New South Wales council has praised Balldale Quarry’s impact as it begins its annual crushing initiative.
The material from the program supports the council’s annual gravel resheeting and maintenance grading cost-effectively.
The Federation Council operates several quarries within its local government area, which supply essential materials like gravel, sand, and stone for maintenance and infrastructure projects. These quarries are situated on council-owned land or on private land where the council has agreements with landowners.
“Operating our own quarry, like the one in Balldale, is a game-changer for our road networks,” Federation Council mayor Cheryl Cook said.
“It provides us with a reliable and cost-effective source of essential construction materials. This ensures we can keep project costs down, leading to improved road maintenance and more efficient construction projects that benefit our entire community.
“By sourcing our own materials, we bypass the expense of purchasing from external suppliers, which generates significant savings, especially on large-scale projects.
“Furthermore, having our own quarry ensures a consistent and readily available supply of materials, helping us avoid delays caused by external factors or supply chain disruptions.”
The council maintains its quarry operations by implementing plans that adhere to environmental regulations and its management plans. Through its comprehensive rehabilitation plans, these sites can be transformed at a later date into bushland conservation.
