The NSW Resource Regulator has released its key priorities for the quarry and mining industry for the remainder of the year.

The regulator is examining safety compliance across both industries and is investigating four key concerns for the remainder of the year. The regulator releases its compliance priorities and assessment programs every six months.

Resources Regulator executive director, Jamie Tripodi said these priorities were evidence-based and responded to incidents and emerging risks.

“The compliance priorities for the Regulator will continue to have a strong focus on safety and environmental risks, which is critical for all mine workers and their communities,” she said.

The four compliance areas encompass: effective management of entanglement risks with rotating parts in quarries, reviewing principal hazard management plans and principal control plans, ensuring the safety and accessibility of underground emergency exits and mitigating the risk of conveyor-related fire incidents in underground coal mines.

The NSW Resource Regulator has also released its sustainability priorities for the two sectors. These include: decommissioning of plant and equipment, final landform establishment, native species revegetation and undertaking targeted assessment programs for site rehabilitation.
