A quarry is set to play a key role as part of the Beveridge North West Precinct Structure Plan, which has been signed off by the Victorian Government.

Victorian planning minister Sonya Kilkenny approved the plan recently. The community will include 15,000 new homes, four town centres, eight schools and 79 hectares of dedicated parks and sports fields, according to the state government’s release.

As part of the new community, quarry will be established with its building materials to support the new homes and infrastructure across Victoria. When announcing the plan, the state government said the quarry would be subject to strict controls including a buffer zone and mandatory closure and rehabilitation deadline of 2052.

“This new suburb will be home to around 47,000 Victorians – because we’ve unlocked the land for thousands of new homes as well as schools, parks, and community hubs,” Kilkenny said.

“This is part of our long-term Greenfields plan – unlocking land right across the state to deliver more than 180,000 new homes over the next decade.”
