Heidelberg Materials Australia has confirmed it has secured a major contract as part of South Australia’s largest infrastructure project.

The company has been awarded the Segmental Lining Concrete Supply contract, which will be integral to the tunnelling works with the final 10.5km of the North–South Corridor of the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project.

As part of this agreement, Heidelberg Materials Australia’s team will supply the concrete for more than 55,000 precast tunnel segments. To manage this level of demand, Heidelberg Materials Australia is building a specialised dedicated wet batch concrete plant in collaboration with the T2D Alliance to be located at Waterloo Corner.

The precast tunnel segments will be installed underground through the 10.5km of the North–South Corridor via three operational purpose-built Tunnel Boring Machines.

“We’re proud to bring global expertise to a local landmark project and this opportunity provides a significant step forward in our local delivery capability – strengthening our workforce and building long-term capacity for major project delivery,” the company posted.

“We’re excited to collaborate with the Torrens to Darlington Project Alliance and contribute to a project that will benefit South Australians for generations to come.”

The T2D project is one of South Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects. The South Australian government has estimated the $15.4 billion T2D project will support approximately 5500 jobs per year during main construction.
