A joint venture between Laing O’Rourke and global infrastructure firm AECOM has been appointed Delivery Partner for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Venues Infrastructure Program.
In a major step toward progressing the state’s plans for the multi-billion-dollar-event, the consortium, known as Unite32, will work with the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) to manage the delivery of 17 new and upgraded venues across Queensland, from the Gold Coast to Cairns.
Laing O’Rourke managing director of Australia Mark Dimmock said this is a monumental achievement for both companies.
“It is an honour and a privilege to be selected to work with the Queensland Government, GIICA and our joint venture partner AECOM to deliver one of the world’s most iconic events: the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Dimmock said.
“Together, Laing O’Rourke and AECOM bring expertise, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Our combined capabilities mean we’re not just ready, we’re energised to deliver one of the most transformative programs Queensland has ever seen and create a legacy that will endure for generations.”
Unite32 will bring together senior experts from both companies’ who have previously contributed to the delivery of Olympic and Paralympic infrastructure at events including London 2012, Rio 2016, Paris 2024, and Los Angeles 2028. The program forms a central part of the overall infrastructure investment for the Games, values at around $1.7 billion.
AECOM chairman and chief executive officer Troy Rudd said the appointment reflects the company’s “unmatched experience delivering complex, multi-billion-dollar programs” and will help shape infrastructure that will serve communities well beyond the Games.
“This is a proud moment for AECOM,” Rudd said.
“We’ve been shaping Queensland since 1957, and now together with GIICA, we will shape its future, delivering critical infrastructure that will serve Brisbane and the region for generations, supporting community sport, major events, and everyday life long after 2032.”
