Registrations are rapidly closing for a face-to-face quarry training workshop in New South Wales, tailored to quarry operators and supervisors keen to sharpen their risk-management skills and understanding of slope instability.

Scheduled for Monday 2 March 2026, the Institute of Quarrying Australia’s (IQA) Slope Stability for Operators workshop takes place at the Penrith RSL.

Designed around the high-risk hazard of slope failure, the course aims to equip participants with geotechnical awareness and practical tools to recognise warning signs and implement preventative measures. Attendees will hope to gin a clear understanding of the causes and signs of instability, how to assess differing failure types, and strategies for mitigating risk in active quarry environments. The session is led by experienced geologist Otto Karhunen and offers 3.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

Prices start at $260 for IQA members and $300 for non-members, and registration closes on Friday 20 February 2026.

This workshop is part of a broader push by the IQA to enhance competency and safety culture though on-person and online webinars. Quarry professionals are encouraged to secure their place now.
